Quad Cities Nuclear
Generating Plant Closing-
Scheduled to close June 1, 2018
Solar
and wind energies receive 140 times and 17 times more in federal subsidies
than nuclear. We pay for that.
If
the Quad Cities nuclear plant received a fraction
of subsidies that solar and wind receive through Illinois' Renewable
Portfolio Standards we would not need the SB1585.
At the same time
we have a reliable LOW CARBON energy resource and asset in Illinois that
cannot compete against unfairly subsidized energy. It's time to protect
Illinois' nuclear energy as our largest source of clean, low-carbon energy.
ALL clean energy should be protected.
This will have
serious effects on Rock Island County as we will have 800+ job losses, the
loss of dependable energy, and future loss of revenue from Rock Island
County's largest property tax payer.
