Salute to Special Olympians Fund-raiser
Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union
4600 Blackhawk Road, Rock Island
Honoring those in our community with special needs, the County Board, by
unanimous vote, has designated
May 17, 2013 as Special Olympians Day in Rock
Island County.The
event is a fund-raiser for Special Olympics Illinois, with all proceeds
staying in Western Area 4. It’s a great opportunity for the community to
come out and have some fun, while supporting our local special athletes. It
also provides a no-cost social event for Individuals with Special Needs.
Personnel from area Police & Fire Departments will display vehicles &
equipment. There will be K-9 demonstrations, games, and an arts & crafts
table. The Quad City Juggling Club will be on hand to perform, teach, &
play. There will also be a silent auction and entertainment will be provided
by ABC “Squared” Karaoke & D.J. Service. Food, included with admission, will
include sloppy joes, baked beans, potato chips, beverage, & dessert.
Admission for adults is $10 and children 12 & under are free with a paying
adult. Persons with special needs and two family members or an escort are
FREE.
This event has been a great success, because of the work of numerous
volunteers, and the strong support of Area Businesses, Community Leaders, &
Labor Organizations. Community support as a whole has been great. Special
Olympics means so much to so many; Please join the Public Safety
Professionals of Rock Island County in Saluting the Will & Spirit that
personifies Special Olympians. Join us for a great time, and help us ensure
that our Special Friends continue to have every possible opportunity
