Jim Wozniak Interview

Progressive State Tax

December 10, 2014

I am sorry to hear Judy Baar Topinka has passed away.

I met Judy Baar Topinka in July 2005 when she was running for governor.  She was the first Republican woman nominee for governor and I met her when I was supporting in her gubernatorial bid when she was State Treasurer.   Her courage and slightly avante garde approach to Illinois politics and her party inspired me to do what I believe in and become more involved in my Republican party and in community.  Judy went on to become our state comptroller and just won her last bid for that office.

Judy Baar Topinka was also former Chairwoman of the Illinois Republican Party.

She was always a genuine person and didn't mince words.  I admired her "tell it like it is" honesty, and I remember in my brief meetings with her she spoke candidly about the gubernatorial race.  I later got to meet her briefly again this year when her bus tour came to Rock Island County for a very warm welcome. I got to tell her she was an inspiration to me.

Below are pictures from a very warm July 2005 in Chicago when I was supporting her for Governor.
